Edward P. Monte, Ph.D., Family Solutions Group

The not so hidden secret of incompetence, narcissism, competition and co-dependence in family business.
Edward P. Monte, Ph.D. is a founding principal in Family Solutions Group – a family business / family office consulting firm specializing in helping families and their advisors more effectively navigate the emotional complexities often associated with significant wealth. FSG works toward untangling the underlying emotional issues which can sabotage leadership, succession, financial, and estate planning. He and his partners also work with individuals and families on the underlying personal issues and values clarifications tied to philanthropy. Edward has for the past nineteen years specifically concentrated on parent – adult child relationship issues that impact the family business. A particular focus in his consulting, research and writing is the complex dynamics between fathers and sons in business together. He is a member of the Family Firm Institute and regularly presents in business schools, accounting and consulting firms throughout the country. Edward also delivers executive coaching with a focus on personal and interpersonal issues – such as life cycle stages and gender - which impact career development, leadership, motivation and organizational dynamics. He is on faculty in the Next Generation Leadership Institute at the Loyola University Chicago Family Business Center. As a third generation son in a family business, Edward brings a unique perspective to his consulting practice. Since the early 1900's, Edward's immediate and extended family businesses have been part of Albuquerque history. He is also a highly experienced workshop leader presenting locally, nationally and internationally.

In addition, Edward is a practicing psychotherapist specializing in couple and family therapy. In practice for over thirty years, he is the Clinical Director of Centra, PC – a multi-disciplinary psychotherapy and psychiatric practice group. For eleven years prior to founding Centra, Edward was a senior staff clinician and supervisor with a couple and family therapy clinic in the Department of Psychiatry, at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine. He is currently on the graduate adjunct faculty of the Department of Social Policy and Procedure at the University of Pennsylvania. For five years, he was on the teaching faculty in the doctoral program in Couple and Family Therapy at Drexel University and a recurring lecturer at the London Marriage Guidance Council in London, England. Edward is a clinical member and approved supervisor with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).
